Changelog:
3.8.6
* Added killing of participating media paths that escape objects by accident. (Fixes weird glow around some SSS objects)
* Various optimisations to path tracing
* Optimised sun/sky models
* Added floor() and fract() for vec2 and vec3 to ISL_stdlib.txt.
* Added special case for Blend material, to just use the displacement of the non-null material when blending with null.
* Fixed crash on realtime changes with full scene rebuilds (for example with displacement changes)
* When the core is done building the scene, reset the display timer to avoid an image update happening immediately.
* Fixed styling issues with "supersampling factor" label in GUI.
* Made it so you can now select a PIGS file when resuming a render.
* Fixed some crashes in GL Preview on bad material / model data.

Is the path tracing optimisation significant?

I did some 5 min testrender, 3.8.6 seems to have a SPS increase of around +13% in this sun lit scene (BiDirPT)!
Thanks a lot for the speed up, its always welcome Ono :)

So he wasn't talking about pure pt then?

Afaik "Path Tracing" is used in every rendermode mode, they are all relating to some "basic PT core" on a certain level.
I might me absolute wrong here (!!!), and some explanation from the Devs (maybe with a fancy graphic chart :D ) would be very welcome.

I'm a big fan of fancy graphic charts myself! xD

I'm really liking this release, been rendering an animation since it came out on 1 machine, each frame 10,000spp and its actually moving right along! :-)

On the last release I was having a strange checkerboard pattern show up often and I haven't seen it here yet. I was starting to think it was something I was doing with the Maya code but glad I am not!

Keep it up devs!

They have removed the checkerboard pattern???? *fainting*

Not completely, and yes this is in my opinion one of the top rendering priorities at the moment :)
