The reason for this seems to be Indigos auto importance weighting for lights. Your scene has 2 light sources, a mesh light and the envSphereGeometry. The scene with emission not set get calculated flux value automatically and end sup with 1000 times stronger difference between the both light sources. Now the stronger Light also get 1000 times more computation time, and the weaker light stays noisy for ages still contributing to the whole image with the massive amount of noise...

This example shows how important a good balance between light sources is, and maybe also that Glare should allow to tweak the importance directly in the future (even on the fly, in the LightLayer tab...)
indeed, it was the default cindigo setup, once I took off the env light all things behaved as they should :)

Sorry if this question was already asked, but has anyone tried to use GPU accelation with a HD 5850? The only thing that happens for me is that... 0ks/s and updating image. Is it possible to fix this bug? (I`m using Catalyst 11.6)

Hi Vasco,
This should hopefully be fixed in 3.0.13, which we will release on Monday.

Hi Vasco,
Sorry about that, it took a bit longer to get the release ready than I thought.
We should be releasing today or tomorrow.

Hi snorky,

could you maybe not post these links to unreleased builds anymore? :) (otherwise we have to stop putting them on the website ;) )

Thanks!

Glass acceleration doesn't seem to help water stuff. Maybe because it's a volume?

Glass has a volume too. I'd assume that it has more to do with the fact that the volume is enclosed by coplanar faces.

That's why we didn't call it water acceleration 8)

In all seriousness, the GA is intended to be used for thin sheets (not single interfaces) with low curvature.

Is it possible to change the exponent for phong materials from the UI? I can only see IOR.
