Re: Exponent

huh - I always think of the C value as the base and the B as the multiplier. so if I have a plastic that should be shinier/more-polished in spots, the C is the roughest I would want my material to be at any point. I would pretty much never use a value of 0 for the exponent of any phong. just so I u...

Re: I would love to see how Indigo renders on this bad boy

That article is bull**** I suppose. The real topic is about integrating amplifiers for THz signals in a chip. This may be useful for jet fighter radar electronics, medical imaging, maybe in some years for your 7G smartphone, or for a 1M$ microwave oven with high heating uniformity. But nothing to do...

Re: Samples per pixel increase and decrease

You mean samples per second, not samples per pixel (which should never decrease...) It is likely that render stops during sleep (screensaver), this is a known issue on macs. You need to change some settings of Mac OS X for that (I don't know well, I'm on M$oft) It then increases gradually because In...

Re: sun and backround

Maybe your envmap/background is much too bright compared to the sun, try decreasing the envmap multiplier

Re: Problem with HDR images when I export to standalone

This looks like a gamma decoding issue. The EXR should be loaded with gamma=1, it looks like it is loaded with gamma=2.2 or so by Indigo

Also, make sure you are using bidir mode.

Re: External meshes with external materials

Indeed, material names are stored in the igmesh. But you can by creating material aliases, this will create a material of the same name than the mesh material, but which points on another material defined elsewhere in the igs. <alias_material> <current_name>Leather</current_name> <new_name>previewma...

Re: help creating a shaded material

This one should be OK for you :)

Don't forget to activate "step" in blend material

Re: help creating a shaded material

I know that in real life it would probably be a layer of dots that fade. but good luck doing that in sketchup. Nothing related to sketchup! All you need is a blend texture which has some dots instead of a gradient. Such as this one which was made for a real-life glass serigraphy: printing.png Also,...

Re: help creating a shaded material

HA! I just did the same. There is only a small difference, it's hard to see, but if you flick between these 2 you can see that the image with gamma 1.0 has more chrome material... but the point of transition seems to be centred, which it probably should be with this map. If you check the 'smooth' h...

Re: help creating a shaded material

You are both right and wrong... When you do a linear black>white gradient in PS, it creates RGB values linearly mapped between 0 and 255. Whatever the gamma setting in PS is (in fact, PS, as most image software, work in gamma space without knowing anything about gamma), if your gradient is 256 pixel...

Re: help creating a shaded material

For a blend map, I'm not sure a gamma of 2.2 is always the best choice. If your gradient varies linearly from 0 to 255, a gamma of 1 will ensure that materials are blended linearly.

A gamma of 2.2 will unbalance towards material A.

Re: Why does tonemapped EXRs get clamped?

OK, in that case the linear tonemapper should not clamp EXRs, this would make sense.

Re: Why does tonemapped EXRs get clamped?

The camera tonemapping is based on measured, tabulated values about film response. And this tabulated data goes not beyond the clamping luminance threshold! So the tonemapper has no way of knowing how to handle values above this threshold... If you want unclamped values, you should use the linear to...
