64 bit for windows shouldnt be such a big speed up, but sse2/3/whatever is, cuz ive tried it. maybe 20% increase, but thats more than what we got for porting indigo to x64 (?) (correct me if im wrong)

true. I could model the bishop without curves or booleans, but why do that when its done in literally a 20th of the time and the megabool script spits out an *extremely* clean mesh, i can upload the blend if you wanna see it.

And yes, FFT's would be done faster on a graphics card because of the math involved (the sum) And about the fact that fft'...

the appearance of the normals has nothing to do with how indigo will render it.

Sebastian: go to edit mode, select all and press ctrl-N to recalc the normals, then try it again.

yeah, that was the only way i could model a bishop: make it with beziers, and then spin it and subtract the little slit it has in the side. blend bools didnt work for that

its prob cuz the light on the floor doesnt have a chance to have blurry edges cuz of the size of the room (4x4m). If you make it say, 16x16 or 32x32 but also scale up everything else, i think it migh blur more.

the second part of your post was directed at BbB, but i think you meant me judging by the sections content....

heres the studio setup i used. i know its outta proportion, but you can always scale down and readjust the light strength. anyways, here:

I guess its better with only emitters. BUT (and its a big but) only if you add some other low power emitters (perhaps 2) around the model, i mean like long rectangular boxes so that you dont get 2 funky shadows. that way, the scene will still be bright, but you will still see the headlamp thing. -OR...
