Re: Indigo Renderer 3.6.5 Beta Release
Noticed that in some cases, subdivision with displacement uses more memory in 3.6.5 than 3.6.2 -- not sure it is in all cases, but a displacement heavy scene which runs with 3.2 GB in 3.6.2 uses over 7 GB in 3.6.5.

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Terraformed Moon... Modeled in Blender, media spheres of greater density towards center, clouds displaced sphere with SSS media, displaced using map of Earth's clouds. Used Moon altitude map for land...land colors hand painted in Photoshop mostly based on altitude. Note that the hazy blue line of th...

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
@ solarray -- image looks heavy... The image is mostly dupliverted or "dupli-hair'ed" instances of maybe 35 objects -- crude buildings with maybe 50 polygons, space stations kind of the same, and clouds made from icospheres displaced by Blender's "Displace" modifier, scattered around a couple of sph...

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Just playing with Blender "Hair" to scatter dupli-grouped clouds and buildings on a displaced sphere. The first "Yellow" picture has multiple atmosphere layers, while the second "Blue" picture has the clouds bigger and only a single atmosphere layer.

Re: Indigo Renderer 3.2.4
Noticed an odd effect with attempts to make ISL clouds with blue sky when using Path tracing. This is not just in this version, but in earlier Indigo 3 betas, too (might have been in Version 2 for all I know - only tried this with Version 3). When I use the following code: def eval(vec3 pos) vec3 : ...

Re: Snow Scene with Sky Shadows
Actually a typo -- scattering was r = 0.2, g = 0.4, b = 1.0. Another comment -- noticed that mesh subdivision of "smooth" Blender meshes seems to mess up and distort the UV's. A bug? If the displaced mesh is not smooth, it does not mess up the UV's, but it seems to disconnect the polygons from each ...

Re: Snow Scene with Sky Shadows
How I did it: The sky is SSS applied to a big cylinder centered by the camera...about 2000 Blender Units high and 80,000 across. Homogeneous medium, so it does not drop off with height, multiplied 0.008 (or 0.0008) to a scattering color of r = 0.4, g = 0.4, b = 1.0, no absorption at all. Heyney Gree...

Re: Snow Scene with Sky Shadows
Here is a daytime version, kind of crude mapping, etc. Just displaced a single square (only four vertices) with 15 or 16 subdivisions.

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
SSS around a displaced shape. Not the smoothest render, but it looked kind of cool. Notice that straight path tracing, no bidirectional or MLT, is quick for scattering media.

Snow Scene with Sky Shadows

Re: Indigo Renderer 3.0 and Indigo RT
Also, on the same system, outdoor-type scenes are several times faster..maybe as much as 10 times faster...using GPU rendering.

Re: Indigo Renderer 3.0 and Indigo RT
One thing I've seen in 3.0 is that interior scenes lit by sunlight through a window (like Sketchup models of a house or building, but no glass in the window for simplicity) render a LOT faster using the GPU acceleration. Comparing an i7 950, CPU rendering to GPU using a GTX285 (a fairly slow card, b...

Re: Indigo Renderer 3.0 and Indigo RT
One thing that may be a bug -- mesh subdivision seems to take more memory -- caused my PC to fill up its 9 GB of RAM (i7, WIndows 7, 64 bit), when subdividing meshes that only took 5 GB with Indigo 2.

Re: Palm View Villa
Outstanding!
Looking at these, I honestly wouldn't think these were 3D renders instead of real photos unless I was told. At first, I thought these were the photos you used to model your scene after, not renders!
