I've been exporting using the Softimage XSI exporter. Everything is in the same IGS file (well, except for the bump/displacement map). Unless the UV coordinates on the mesh are what you're wondering about, I don't think the exporter is the issue. I've been editing the file manually to add bump, subd...

I did some bump tests, which I'll post soon. Even on triangles facing towards light sources, there's no normal smoothing if they're bump mapped. The occlusion issue can't be the only thing going wrong, as I stated in my previous post. As for the occlusion issue, THAT'S one issue that I wouldn't both...

Ah, interesting -- it seems that the UV problem is associated with subdivision, not with displacement. On the scene with the orange cylinder on the blue surface, I get the same artefacts around the texture seam if I switch the displacement map to a bump map, but only if the surface is subdivided. I'...

I think EXR files are working "properly" in 1.1.7. I've been able to use EXR bump and displacement maps, though displacement isn't working quite right and UV mapping gets messed up if you use subdivision surfaces. But yes, so far as I know, EXR format can still be read, at least for textures.

Ok, very very last time I flood this thread with the same scene I promise  Just a bigger shot with a different lighting, and cooked longer. The grass is made of different instanced meshes I found somewhere on the net (all good quality), as they were free I can share them if you're interested....

The Doc's really inspiring and clever. Having a try at rock too... Displacement's just phenomenal. Got to try this with a ZBrush sculpt! I've been trying it with ZBrush sculpts, and I've been running into a lot of troubles. It seems that Indigo just can't handle UV seams at all -- which limits arti...

I hope he fixes these problems soon. I keep picking up Indigo, playing it, and then abandoning it again because it's still not sufficiently fully-featured to render all the real-world phenomena one might want to render. Bump mapping is also not working right (see this thread ), so unless one is sati...

I'm doing a bit of coding on related issues, and I think this is a pretty fundamental problem with bump mapping / shading normals. The problem is is that the observer expects some direct illumination on the bump-mapped triangles pointing away from the light source. However, this is impossible, as t...

Ah. I didn't realize there was an English version as well. I've already responded to the Spanish thread. Did you remember to delete the object construction history before exporting it?

I used a free translation engine to translate that message, so apologies if anything was lost in translation. (I only speak French and English, I'm afraid). Here's the translation: Hello folks! I am testing Indigo, and when I launch the render from Maya (using MtI), the first thing that appears is m...

Keep in mind Ono does this in his spare time! Concerning that indigo is just awesome! And I'm sure Ono is already hunting the problem down! Oh, I know. The established feature set in Indigo is pretty impressive, and I don't want to belittle the great work OnoSendai has already done. I just hope tha...

Hmm... Yes, it does seem like the problem is UV seams. This cylinder renders just fine with a displacement map, except at the UV seam (oriented down the right side of the object in the first image and away from the camera in the second). In the case of the first image, the renderer crashed after a s...

Here's the latest rendering, with the curvature threshold set to -1. The artefacts have shifted around a little bit, but they're still there.

It might be a UV seam problem for the most part. I'll try making another object and playing with UVs and displacement maps.

Okay, I read that and I think I understand most of it. Where does that leave us as artists, then? We can do our best to avoid sharp jumps in our displacement maps, but there will always be some. My displacement map was much more continuous than the black and white test map shown here, yet it still p...

Aww, give the YouTube guy a break. Anyone who's new to CGI -- or anything complicated and technical, for that matter -- goes through a stage of not knowing what he or she is talking about. If he keeps playing around with Indigo and other freeware programs, maybe he'll learn a thing or two.
