Ono... I beg to disagree. Granted, you know more about this stuff than I'll ever hope to know, that's just a given, but I'm not seeing this problem in other renderings. I started this model as a way to reproduce the errors photoguy is getting in his render.. http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/foru...

It would be nice if someone came up with a tutorial about how to install WINE for the Intel version of OSX.

Set smooth/Subsurf error?

I've been trying to render this test of some simple glasses and I cannot for the life of me figure out what's wrong. It looks as though "set smooth" is being ignored, although I do have it selected. I've also added a subsurf modifier to level 3. I thought maybe that I didn't have enough geometry, as...

I would say that the lighting is biggest factor in making your first render look like a toy. And as you correctly pointed out, the very primitive ground plane. If it were a real house, it would be sitting outside in direct sunlight. It also needs more detail. Lack of minor, minute details are adding...

My guess is that you're going to have to use either Camera or Linear Tone mapping, not Reinhard.

Yet... another 608 Bearing

I did the 608 Bearing tutorial as well. First render I did looks ok but I don't think it's too spectacular. 2nd one is better IMO. But I'm open to crits and suggestions.

I agree with the others. Something isn't right. Looking through the top of the water towards the bottom of the glass it looks as though you may have some strangeness going on with normals or maybe some Triangles that are messing things up.

I take it that you can't use an Emitter in a Blended material? Does anyone have a suggestion for a work around?

I never trust my normals. Even if I recalculate outside I still select "Show Normals", zoom in, and then check all the faces. You'd be surprised at how many individual faces here and there don't get flipped.

I do. I'm just saying a pull down menu would be more convenient and may be less confusing for new users.
