Unfortunately ashton didn't told us which Indigo version he's using. I suppose what is happening here is that he's using Indigo 1.0.9 stable along with IES light sources in the scene. I encountered that in such setup (with 64-bit Linux version precisely) Indigo goes in infinite loop at warm up stage...

Yes, with specular SSS material you can produce isotropic fog, mist, dusty air and alike.
