I just guessed. And failed. And guessed again...
(You got to admit there are a lot of good ones too)

Good idea. I haven't used nk materials yet. Will give it a go.

Suvakas: Thanks. But of course, I take no credit here - just stealing other people's mats really

There you go with a nice environment map.

Stur: The wallpaper comes from the Maxwell library. Have a look, there are dozens.

Yeah, I suspect it's the reflection from the dark background. I might re-render it with an environment map.

A few other examples (tin foil, a heavily tweaked turquoise enamel, leather and ivory). I've redone the rust ball to mimick a specular map by blending a diffuse and a phong material. There's a serious limitation there because of the impossibility to use bump maps with blend materials (although I kno...

Carnivore: Yes, there's quite a bit of tweaking there. What you get from their library are the raw mats, i.e. the textures. Everything else, shaders, adjusting the exponent of the textures, material definitions, you have to do by hand. As I said, there is also a lot that cannot be replicated, mostly...

Materials goodness

You're probably aware of this, but I was browsing through Maxwell's free materials library the other and it's a real goldmine. Many cannot be replicated in Indigo (yet) as they use complex blending, transparency settings, specular and normal maps, but with a bit of tweaking, there's a lot to be done...

Actually, it would be fine even if you could use only one bump map for the blended material. Merging different bumpmaps sounds complicated...

Thanks Ono. I'll see if I can find a workaround and post it here.

Blend material and bumpmap problem

Hiya,
I'm having trouble blending two materials that use bumpmaps, even if they use the same map with the same exponent. I get nice bumps on each material, but a completely flat surface as soon as I blend the two. Is this a known issue and is there a fix? Or am I doing something wrong?

Blender does weird things to normals, sometimes utterly un-understandable. Better export and re-import your mesh as an .obj file. It generally gets rid of the curse, as a famous Docteur once advised.

If that's the only light in the scene, yes.

I would render two images, one with the fluid as a light material, another with an SSS material and combine the two in postproduction.
