Re: TIP REQUEST: which video card?

I just purchased a 480 (coming from an ATI 5870). It is a wonderful card and is lightning fast (best single GPU card out there). As people have mentioned, they run hot, take lots of power, and can be a little noisy. The 470 is a little better in these aspects but is still a tad too much. Nvidia has ...

Re: It seems to be a good way to create Env. map

In the settings where you specify the environment map you can also set the rotation of said map. You can rotate it so any part you want is behind the model. You can also rotate your model if that is easier.

Re: Indigo promo video

In the video, it would be nifty to show a complete process, i.e. a time lapse of a model getting built and then transition to the rendered scene if that makes sense. Kind of like the images on the main page that you can slide across to show before and after.

Re: Black Anodized/Painted Brushed Aluminum

Well, I was never really satisfied with the last iteration of the material. I think I have almost gotten to where I can bear to look at it but I have some issues. I have to set the bump map as a Sketchup texture so I can scale it correctly. Just linking to the igm makes the bump image extremely smal...

Re: Creating Lights

Ok... even for a rookie like me, that was a pretty rookie mistake. I do always have a dilemma when I want things in me scene the same color, but different "materials" what to do? I thought creating a duplicate texture in SU would do the trick. That was what I thought I did in this case. I used whit...

Re: Creating Lights

I'm sorry, I used the word Layer when I meant Material. Material: How the object looks/acts when acted upon by light. Layers: Used for lighting. For example, a material on layer 0 will be lit by light on layer 0, but not layers 2 or 3. Chances are you won't need to use light layers right off the bat...

Re: can anyone help me with my water problem?

Take a look at this thread from this post onward: http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/vie ... 188#p97188

He uses perlin noise as a bump map which gives some great results.

Re: Creating Lights

Looks like your bottom surface is on the same layer as the Bulb. So it is emitting and hence no shadows on that surface.
