Re: Strange rendering result

Too high displacement! The planet is displaced by more than its radius.
Check either the planet size, or the material displacement amount

Re: Sauna modeled with Sketchup and rendered with Skindigo

Hi,

This would deserve a nice envmap instead of the raw sun/sky horizon!
I'm just curious, how long did it render? Did you use arch glass?

Cheers,

Etienne

Re: linear 1.0 with caterpillar scene

Yes, it works at you think. What explains the dark results in the caterpillar scene, is the amount of light from the environment, which is tiny and unrealistic. So the problem is the scene and not your exposure settings. If you have a photometrically correct lighting set-up, such as the sun+sky or a...

9 years since the original post, that's extreme necromancy :)

Re: Performances of i7 5820K

Whoa, I didn't know the 6-core is selling for so little. Then yeah, as Zom-B said, it's down to price of motherboard and (mainly) DDR4. Indigo responds very well to additional cores and memory channels, as tested on an 8-core Xeon in the Mac Pro, so I expect it to be quite worthwhile. I've tested I...

The 5820K is sold at a very interesting price, around 380$, vs 330$ for the 4770K. That's not a huge difference! Clearly not a super high end hardware, as opposed to the 59xx series.

Performances of i7 5820K

Dear all,

The recent i7 5820K is appealing in benchmarks. Do someone has an idea of the Indigo performance with it? I'm hesitating between a 4770K and this new one, which has two more cores, but a much higher TDP.

Cheers,

Re: Skewed Texture Maps

That's because Indigo does not support homogeneous UVW mapping which SketchUp uses. UV mapping is not able of skewing.

Subdividing makes the effect unnoticeable with enough subdivisions

Re: sugar material

No phong, you need a specular such as glass with no absorption. Or at least, if you stick to phong, use a pure black diffuse color. But specular will always look better. Because a non transparent cube face will reflect light in a single direction, while a glass-like cube will create many rereflectio...

Re: Workstation question - serious.

Displacement is a pre-processing step and does not change anything during the actual rendering (there are just more polygons). So I cannot speak on behalf of Glare, but I bet it will be available for GPU rendering, provided you have enough GPU RAM to store all the extra polygons created by displacem...

Re: strange reflections after "resume render"

It's clearly not a resolution issue. In the image sent by pixie, the camera viewpoint before and after resume is different. The result from two different cameras is superimposed. Maybe you changed the camera interactively in Indigo, and resumed the scene without having saved it with the new camera p...
