I'd recommend increasing the tonemapping scale and decreasing the gain on the emitter. The brightness of the sun in real life is MUCH brighter than any indoor lighting. I would try making the emitter 1/10th as bright and increase the tonemapping scale by 10x. As for the light coming down the wall, I...

That's not entirely true. Smaller aperture does reduce the brightness if you use linear tonemapping.
Reinhard tonemapping, however, acts like an auto-exposure.

It seems both renderers have been developing fairly rapidly. I found a couple old indigo renders of the scene for comparison. EDIT: seems psor beat me to it :) indigo .4 100hours: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=3461952&postcount=110 . And one in the gallery - .5 100hours: http://www.indi...

I'll try it soon...

More kd-tree stuff

After playing with a scene of mine for a while, I discovered that most (if not all) of my kd-tree errors are caused by rotation. If an object is off-axis from the original position, one of two things happen - either the scene won't load (kd-tree error) or the .tre cache file is significantly larger ...

just make the lens_sensor_dist value fairly high (.5 - 1 or more (500-1000mm)) and make the camera position farther away.
Not perfect orthographic, but I don't think anybody could tell.

I've had this problem as well. It's very strange, it seems to be an issue with only certain meshes. I've been able to render scenes with 700,000+ tris, and get this error with some 20-30,000 tri scenes. I've tried to render this scene: http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=245, but I g...

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but... fov=2*arctan(sensor size/(2*lens_sensor_dist)) The sensor size is the diagonal size, so use the sensor width and aspect ratio. so I think this will work (haven't tested it) fov=2*arctan[((sensor_width^2)+(sensor_width/aspect_ratio)^2)^(1/2)/(2*lens...

The trick is to get the emitter to be inside of a box with a slit to get a straight beam.
