Re: which program to use?

Blender is great because it's free. 3dsMax does the same job (I guess) and probably has better integration with other Autodesk software, like Revit or Autocad. Most of commercial models (plants, furniture...) are also often in 3ds format. I'm a blender user myself, and I've done most of my school pr...

Re: Milk (regular) optimized

There should be no gap (the meshes should intersect), but difference in materials precedence value. The precedence tells indigo how to clip intersecting mediums (eg. glass and milk).

Higher precedence wins and lower gets clipped.

Re: Canon 5D Mk II - Maya to Indigo

@ Lemo: Can it be overlapping UVs ? Seems to me that redoing UVs fixed the gripL shape in instanceBug . To all non MtI users: Are overlapping UVs and/or exposed map borders an issue when using bump mapping in Indigo ? I'm a bit lost as to where the issue might be really. Thanks. - - - - Okay Pibuz,...

Re: stuck in progress

I would bet there is no other light than the outside envmap... But the white paint has a too high albedo and uniformizes the light. I'm guessing there's another set of huge windows behind the camera. The clay render is also totally uniformly lit, and i don't think the clay material is 100% white. I...

Re: stuck in progress

What kind of lightning setup you have? Right now the room is almost completely uniformly lit, and the foreground (black table and sofa) doesn't have depth in it. Block the light source behind the camera, and the result will be a lot more dramatic. When there's a huge light source visible in the pict...

Re: How do You learn creating materials ?

Yupp. The material editor test scene is very nice, but in many cases it has got nothing to do with how the created material comes out in the final scene. Wouldn't it be awesome if you could export the selected mesh + material to material editor for tweaking? Shouldn't be that hard to implement, eit...

Re: how can I make my render better?

Here's some basic tips: Edges. In real life, edges are never totally sharp, so use bevels. Also the edges between floor and walls usually have some kind of skirting board. Lighting. There should be more contrast in the lightning. Shadows. Textures. At the moment, the floor and bed textures are too s...

Re: Turn it up to 11!

Interesting coincidence, Opera released a new version....guess which number it is? ;) OT, but doe anyone still use opera? :) It doesn't seem to render as fast as either firefox or chrome and it doesn't have half the innovation that chrome packs.. I'm using Opera. Opera has better tabs than Firefox,...

Re: Ark (spaceship)

Looking a lot better. The problem with scale is still there, though. If you're saying that each block is several hundred miles long, you cant' have any significant "detail" without blowing the polycount into trillions. Hundred miles is a lot. If every block is 50 miles high, 200 miles wide and 300 m...

Re: Ark (spaceship)

I kind of like the no-nonsense feel of it. It's a ship meant to transport a billion people from place A to place B, and that's it. No need for fancy design (like, what's the point with all those saucers in Star Trek?). I think one of the problems is that while it has some idea of being rationalistic...

Re: Ark (spaceship)

Well, the design is a bit boring. I understand the concept of having huuuuge spaceship and the rationalization of it being shaped like that, but it really isn't that picturesque in any way. And, being in a forum called "artwork", the looks of it is a rather important feature. I would strongly advice...

Nice renderings!

The background image in the bedroom is horribly off though, the horizon should be much lower.

Re: [REQ] No Sun

It would be super awesome to be able to pause individual layers. I've had countless situations where the basic lightning is noiseless but some smaller lights are still far from ready. And knowing that the already complete main lightning still eats up vast majority of computing power is frustrating. ...
