31 bit is 2GB, 32 bit is 4GB. On almost all 86 based processors pointers are unsigned and can use all 32 bits. Windows just has the odd restriction of splitting your ram in two, half for the kernel, and half for the user. Here is a tip to get around it that I haven't tried, (my windows recently ate ...

Yo, I'm dogfin, the resident topic killer. I reply and within two posts, the topic is dead. 8) (J/K, I hope). My thoughts are that advanced materials such as SSS be slated for Indigo v3.0 or so. Right now Indigo shouldn't be feature complete, it should be complete features. I would love to load up a...

I like this scene. Its not a bedroom or greeble! 8) Really though, its got great colors, and composition. A larger version would make for a great desktop wallpaper. About the watery look, a lot can be done with just simple fog. There is a sample scene that comes with PovRay (abyss.pov) that has very...

Newton's Cradle with Motion Blur

So, I've been doing the National Novel Writing Month, and I got burnt out and decided to take a day off, this is what I did. I wrote some custom code to do this btw. 10 frames averaged together Each frame rendered to 50 mpp Used the exr's, not the png's. http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/8894/avg2n...

The CPU is becoming more and more like a GPU, and the latest GPU is more and more like a CPU! I just finished an operating systems class, as in how to program them, we covered all sorts of proccessors incuding cores, and I swear I've never heard that. I don't doubt it at all actually, but I'd love ...

Code: Select all

If people don't like it then I'm sorry the hard work of others fails to catch your eye...
Some constructive critisism was offered, and people flew of the handle and shot us down in flames like the hindeberg. Mmmm, comunities sometimes give me such warm and fuzy feelings inside.

radiance, here's a rule of thumb, if you need to post a reply to the same thread 4 times in ten minutes, you might need to walk away and take a breather. By posting like that you completely confirmed what I said about energy in the wrong areas. Stability before Features, Cleanliness before Fluff, th...

I'm inclined to agree with Koba. Its a great design but I keep feeling that the energy of this project keeps being put in to odd areas. One point where I dissagree with Koba is that this quote needs to stay :D 8) :
Indigo, the renderer that keeps on rendering

Alright, I've been over your code, and I've got to be picky first :D g.drawString("Mouse is at... didnt' work for me, it endlessly drew over the top of itself into a blob, I used this instead: showStatus("Mouse is at (" + xCoord + "," + yCoord + ")"); Also, I'm in Linux which has case sensative file...

Just out of curiosity, wouldn't you need an orthographic projection? In real life the film is a flat area, but the camera in indigo is a perspective point. I seem to remember a few years ago someone made a lensed camera in povray using the orthographic projection to get real lensflares and such. Tha...

I personally wouldn't use the GPU to render with, (he said, trying to get the thread back on topic). I try to emulate the industry way of doing things, that is to render in the background on my machine, and leave the GPU free to model the next scene. ita333: I see you like enlightenment. What do you...

Whoa! Whats the rush? We already have another contest going on too. You got to give people time to find this post, think up an idea, and then make it. Just like with the material contest where a week after it was over people were still submitting. Not trying to offend (too much, 8) ), but dang do yo...

ctrl-c and alt-f4 are nice and all, but it would be way better if indigo could just read keyboard input. Not only would it allow for better scripting and front ends, but it would also be a step towards indigo running on a headless system. Not all of my computers have monitors, or even video cards. I...
