Another couple of questions: 1) the .obj support Indigo has.. I assume that the geometry within those most be triangles too, correct? 2) the renderer termination time that you supply on the commandline - is there a way to rather have that time supplied in the .IGS? and an output image name? if I wan...

There's no way to pipe the IGS directly to Indigo (unless you are using the commercial SDK). Hey there, Do you think that you'll support piping into Indigo some day? Why I ask is that it's pretty convenient if it can do done this way. On the good side, the setup is almost ready for any early adopte...

I got the mediums to work - it turns out my polygon winding needed to be reversed. Thats good news! I updated to 1.0.7 and found that the "white_balance" camera tag seems to bork the parser now. It seems like I've added it in the manner described in the PDF file but it doesn't like it. (I renamed it...

Thats good news! (the setup bit)

I'll try to work a solution to the piping without writing wrappers.. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey there, Thanks for the information! I didn't get around to doing anything on this last night but I do have a couple more questions: */ If there any way to pipe the IGS directly into Indigo? Most renderers I've use can read stdin and so Houdini just writes away and the renderers pick it up. So far...

Just to let everyone know, I've made quite a bit of progress with the exporter. There are a few significant areas to still develop but the bulk of it has been done. http://forums.odforce.net/index.php?showtopic=6405&pid=44463&st=12&#entry44463 I'm having hassles where internal_mediums are rendering ...

I think it's actually a generic term for a polygon with any number of sides, http://www.mathwords.com/n/n_gon.htm I tend to use it to mean 4 or more. Ah, so you're not meant to say the "n", you're meant to substitute a number in there. Otherwise its identical to "polygon", I take it. Thanks for the...

I've always wondered: what is an "n-gon"? Polygon with more than 3 sides? Or more than 4 sides?

It might help you to know that Indigo will directly read .OBJ and .PLY objects too. The way I export for Maya is to use Maya's built in OBJ exporter and reference the saved files in the XML. It's very fast, saved a lot of time in developing the exporter and keeps the XML scene filesize down. That i...

So I see that all scales on models have to be Uniform Scales too; is there a workaround for this to have non-uniform scales at all? It seems like this might hinder instancing quite a bit, especially if you're reluctant to bake non-uniform scaling into the mesh definition. Any ideas? EDIT: Ah ok; une...

Thanks for the pointers. I appreciate the help.

I'll get whatever I can out by Wednesday - and I'll probably journal my progress in another thread on odforce.net (to which I'll post a link here later) and also periodically write in here.

Hi Dougal, Thanks for the useful info; it's great to know these answers (even though they all just confirmed my fears  ). The exporter is written all in Python (the Houdini python API is called SOHO (for export) and HOM (general purpose)). It would be great to look at any other python exporter...

I started this last Sunday night to write an H9 exporter, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll be able to get a test version out there. I might be delayed a bit because I'm moving house on Friday and I have to do a lot of crazy house work - but hopefully not too much down-time. I got the ca...
