Re: Indigo Renderer 4.0.46 Beta Release

I don't think we can set this via OpenCL, it's handled by the driver. On the other hand, you can set the thread affinity in Task Manager to stop it from using certain logical cores; on the other-other hand, this should not be necessary and might be a bad idea - if a computer has 100% usage, that doe...

Re: Sroka8888 Rendering Thread

Wow, thanks for this test Sroka! RedShift has a ton of hype around it at the moment, and in my (obviously biased) opinion the image quality of Indigo totally smashes it ;) Arnold always does a great job, but it's difficult to compete with raw GPU power...

Re: RHINO FOR MAC SUPPORT Maxwell

I have to wonder: do people post Indigo news on eg. Maxwell and Octane forums? Like, what's the benefit here for Indigo users?

Re: Help with difficult indoor lighting

For the future I'd consider a couple of GTX 1070's - the GPU renderer eats high res and SS for breakfast. And no box noise -> helps tremendously when denoising. :) From my POV this is the big deal. For animations you'll maybe want to do some denoising, and unfortunately the boxnoise basically makes...

Re: MAC OS SIERRA AND GPU RENDERING

Clearly GPU-ness alone is not enough, it certainly doesn't help them to beat normal desktop CPUs :P

It's true that a Chaotica update is overdue, I hope to do a dev update about it soon.

Re: IndigoBench - Indigo CPU and GPU benchmark

Games will definitely utilise a GPU more than specialised GPGPU applications, since they "light up" many more transistors: GPUs have dedicated hardware for stuff like texture filtering and compression, HDR blending and multisampling AA, hierarchical z-buffer, ...

Re: MAC OS SIERRA AND GPU RENDERING

I would take the contents of that blog post with a grain of salt: their product seems to be based on the opensource Flam4 engine (in violation of the GPL and Mac App Store rules, but that's another matter) which was very poorly implemented. Also, they are known for making outrageous performance clai...

Re: IndigoBench - Indigo CPU and GPU benchmark

The big shift came with Maxwell I think. If you sort the results by Bedroom scores (the tougher of the two tests, stressing incoherent rays), on page 2 currently, you'll see that kklors' massively powerful 8-core Haswell-E at 4.6 GHz gets a slightly lower score than a firstgen Maxwell GTX 750 Ti (!!...

Re: IndigoBench - Indigo CPU and GPU benchmark

Awesome, so many results now!

I'd really like to see what an i7 5775c gets for this benchmark, since it has that awesome 128mb L4 cache, and its GPU is probably quite capable too.

Re: IndigoBench - Indigo CPU and GPU benchmark

Sorry, I meant no offence  With all the GPU hype around it's good to show now and then that Intel haven't been completely wasting their time.

It's great to see the results coming in, and surprising that the 1070 is still #1!

Re: Which GPU to buy?

Some perf results in the mean time:

GTX 1070 + overclock:
Bedroom: 3.884
Supercar: 12.885

RX 480 @ stock clocks:
Bedroom: 1.928
Supercar: 6.261

So yeah, pretty much exactly 2x faster if you overclock the 1070 a bit.

Re: [Req] simultaneous multipass rendering output

+1 with separate exr ouput for each pass. Passes in indigo are rendered really fast, so maybe solution not to compromise speed (rendering passes forever) is to run them at the beginning or at the end of rendering process or set them separate timer or "samples" level. I also think this might be the ...
