Re: A Kind of Late Afternoon

The colored spots in the lower left corner show up when I use media -- when rendering without media (black sky), there are no spots. Once Ono gets the media Scattering speedup in place, this should render faster and give a cleaner render. Ran this overnight on an i7 (8 threads), with subsurface scat...

A Kind of Late Afternoon

Modeled entirely in Blender, lots of Dupli-Verts to imitate Vue's ecosystems. The sunlight comes in through 3 windows, and you can see the sharp cutoff of the window's edge in the air scattering.

Re: User survey: Testing the water for Blender 2.5

Like Blender 2.5 better than 2.49 -- only reason I still use 2.49 is Indigo and other exporters, as the others have said. Would probably switch over completely if Indigo exporter was available.

Shiny Flying Saucers in Pristing Landing Bay

Image of shiny gold flying saucers in a landing bay. Modeled in Blender. Thinking of this as an imaginary album cover for the imaginary British 60's and 70's and 80's rock band "Yellow Pansy" that my friend Dave and I used to talk about...

New Computer --- i7 Much Faster!

My old Core 2 Duo 6300 died...got a new i7 950, 9 gigs RAM...Ben helped transfer my license.

Indigo seems several times faster now. Can't do a benchmark since my old system is deader than a doornail, but Task manager shows 8 cores now rather than 2.

Re: Heterogeneous participating media tests

Smoke, clouds, etc. Explosions. Air pollution. I remember the cloudy sky tests a couple of years ago -- used a noise to simulate clouds, looked pretty good. What would be really interesting is if we could manipulate index of refraction by position...atmospheric media to simulate the sun getting squa...

Re: Island 3 Space Colony

Here is a "sunset" version of the colony -- light shining in at an angle, with the mirrors at an angle -- simulating dawn or dusk. No city lights in the dupli-verted buildings yet... Notice that the Earth is a crescent -- the light is reflected into the colony's cylinder by the mirrors, so the sun i...

Re: Island 3 Space Colony

Rendering time was about 12 hours, on a rather slow Dual Core E6400 PC (which still has a 32 bit operating system). I used Photoshop's Surface Blur filter to get rid of the worst of the noise. Lighting was more challenging than you would think. Originally tried "Physical Sky" sun with "Extra Atmosph...

Island 3 Space Colony

Another rough draft of a space colony render. This is the "Island 3" space colony that Gerard O'Neill proposed in the 1970's -- a cylinder 7 kilometers across and 35 kilometers (!) long (O'Neill proposed a cylinder 4 miles across and 20 miles long, but it's easier to work in metric). It has 3 panels...

Check to make sure Dupli-Groups works in Blender. I am not sure that Dupli-Groups objects are exported now.

Space Colony

Here is a crude render of a hollowed-out asteroid space colony. I used to read about space colonies when I was a kid...always wondered what they would really look like. Now Indigo gives me the chance... This one is a "bubble formed" asteroid, about 3 to 5 km across and 5 to 8 km log, spinning around...

Re: Indigo is going commercial; Indigo 2.0

Ono, I went through a PayPal purchase for a license this morning, and got emails indicating it went through - but I got an error when I was redirected back to the Glare website. How do I get the license key? Looking forward to seeing how Indigo develops over time...brown bagging lunch for a couple o...

Re: What going to happen to us?

Not surprised this is happening -- my fear was that Ono would run out of money and have to abandon development. Indigo is a good product, and somebody has to pay for development... Even though I'm a hobbyist, I will probably buy a license if it looks like the commercial version has some interesting ...
