Umm... it just crashed on me when trying to do a displacement test. It got to "Doing subdivision level 0" and crashed ("indigo.exe has encountered a problem, blah blah"). Works fine in 1.1.1 though. The scene is just a UV sphere, with max num subdiv set to 2, and an FBM displace (I don't think it'll...

Yes, though I think BiDir can be on. That just affects how the path tracing/MLT works.

MLT on/off chooses between path tracing and MLT.
Hybrid on/off chooses between (path/MLT, whatever you chose) and a path/MLT mixture.
Bidir on/off just changes the behavior of the above-mentioned modes.

If you're gonna try a different material, you might as well make it a processor's nightmare and do SSS.

That's a good point. Alpha mapping won't help at all with reflective/refractive materials.

For a gradient/alien landscape/etc. BG you could just use alpha rendering.... add in the background afterwards.

Seriously, the best way (for me) to find the right values for things is to just change it a bit, do a preview render, then repeat as necessary.

Watch out for scene scale though! It can mess you up if you forget about it/change it later! :P

I just have a general dislike towards those kinds of hosting sites. I suppose they're not that bad, but they always have little annoyances (I suppose that's the trade-off for being "free"). Rapidshare has a new "captcha" system that I've never seen before, and to be honest, I had to try twice before...

Hey, BbB, I just went looking for that hdr map you said you couldn't find. Google search for "NVIDIA Adrianne Night" exr OR hdr came up with 1 result. That result is on our very own Indigo website. :P Here 's the links page that refers to it, and here 's the link to the file itself. It's hosted on R...

Ah, I see what you mean now.

I'm assuming that those have the same efficacy rating no matter what the wattage is (dunno exactly tho).
