it's probably because you have the tonemapping as reinhard. It is sort of like an auto-exposure, so when you have an emitter that is visible, it adjusts and everything turns dark.

you need to adjust the tonemapping values... possibly switch to linear or camera.

<jumpoutwindow>Oh No! Uh, uhh... hey look, a two headed bird!</jumpoutwindow>

Seriously though, learning Indigo has made my mentalray renders better... I don't think any other renderer has done that for me.

This guy looks constipated ---> :x

It's important to point out that it is not necessarily the renderer that produces great images, it's the artist. A renderer is just a tool, it doesn't do everything for you. However, some renderers are more suited for certain tasks. Indigo's way of handling lighting very accurately allows for an eas...

I kinda like it
It's strange... but in a good way :)
You may want to try and bump the tonemapping up just slightly, but not too much - I like the strong light/dark contrast

Wow, that was fast :) I wish my machine was that fast.
Thanks Ono, it was the least I could do for this great renderer.

Sorry for the smoothing issues on the model, I model my stuff in Inventor and it never imports perfectly into max :(.

These are the setups in the zip

Feel free to post more if you have good ones :)

(This is probably a bit basic for most of you, but if it helps one person - I'll be happy  )

Studio Setup(s)

Here's another studio setup thread: A while back, after I finished my Hasselblad, I started working on a studio setup tutorial. It's a couple months later and I still can't find the time to do anything decent, so I'll just post what I have. It's a small scene in .3ds format with a few different ligh...

The modeling is good for a dvd case :) Don't take the criticism too hard, you'll be amazed how fast you improve with a little practice. The process of learning this stuff is a much bigger accomplishment than any small project. Often times it's little easy things that make the biggest difference, lik...

Agree, studio shot would work better Also, find a background/lighting that makes the box more interesting - they are nearly identical in color Since you seem to be focusing on the box art design, it's helpful to remember: contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity (I remember it as c.r.a.p) - this i...

Hi All, I'm working on region rendering right now, it's not too hard, although there are quite a few subtle complications regarding Reinhard tonemapping, resume rendering etc.. What I need to know, is what kind of workflow would be useful for the artists out in IndigoLand. I can either make the ent...

That turned out pretty nice, but the composition leaves something to be desired.
Perhaps a close macro shot might work well on future similar works.

Modelling and materials are great though :)

What are you saying ? It's definitely worth a portefolio ! Looking forward to see your next piece. Yeah, I guess you're right - I've just felt rather uninspired lately. Perhaps I'll post this in the final works section. Thanks for the comments :) Is anybody interested in various studio setups? I've...

[REQ] Render Cropped Section

You probably don't need any more feature requests since there is already a huge list - but... here's another one just in case there isn't enough: Render a cropped section of a scene. Most renders seem to have a small section that converges much slower than the rest of the scene, so isolating that se...
