Cool, cheers Nick.

Kram, thanks :)

HT, as Kram points out, I did it in KDE. That's what 'in kde' means :p

It's not Exif comments either. Really? Because I'm setting the "JPEG Exif comments" in kde, and they are appearing in GIMP under 'comments'. and apparently only reads it's -own- comments; Not for me, see the attached image. [edit removed beacuse it's huge, will compress and re-up] [edit 2: re-upped]

It is the comments in the exif data, if you want to first check you're writing properly to the files.

Or you could download infranview, I know that will show exif data (press e I think). http://www.irfanview.com/

Tried applying scale and rotation? (ctrl-a?)

Last time I had messed up refractions it was due to odd scaling.

In Gimp, it's view->info window, or ctrl-shift-i

That lets you read the comments in exif data, anyway.

In kde 3.5, you can see the meta data by right clicking on it.

Ono, right click -> properties, usually. It also shows in various editing programs and some online galleries (I think).

Just as a note, you are getting shadows, they are just very very soft. Same as on an overcast day, it's almost like there are no shadows at all.

It's not hard to write, it's just a more general case of my code. Take my code and replace the hard coded shape by reading in an object from the scene, and have a group of objects showing the replacement rule (so to get what my code does normally, you'd make a square based pyramid, and then place se...

Can you post the render?

Shadows will happen automatically. I imagine there are shadows in your scene, but they are very soft and not very apparent. This can happen if you have large lights. Either that or your object is very small and it's letting almost all the light through (low absorption) .
