Relative or Absolute Spectral Data?
Hi, I was thinking about calibrating my spectrometer when I realized I don't know if Indigo benefits from absolute spectral data (Tabed Data). To clarify, a spectrometer can be calibrated against a NIST light source of know power to yield data that is weighted by watts / power (absolute) or against ...

Re: Writing a NK FIle
That was an excellent explanation and very helpful. I really appreciate the link to the unit converter too. Armed with your information I took another look at Indigo’s nk files. I noticed that value D was one less than the sample total and now believe it to represent the number of sample intervals. ...

Writing a NK FIle
I need some help understanding the data types used in Indigo's NK files. When I look at an Indigo .nk file I see 4 values on the top row and 2 columns of data. For discussion I'll define them like this: Value A Value B Value C Value D Column 1 Column 2 Column 1 Column 2 Column 1 Column 2 I am assumi...

Re: Gain Issue
Hi Jay-ko, When using the Indigo plugin for 3D Max 2015: The Indigo scene file created maintains the linear gamma 1.0 settings for albedo. If a gain adjustment to albedo is made in Indigo's user interface, prior to selecting render in Indigo, the 1.0 gamma settings of the selected colors are changed...

Re: Gain Issue
So I think I have a handle on what is happening. 1) My color data was flawed do to testing error, so Indigo was rendering the correct color based on the spectral / RGB data exported from max. But, 2) When I wiggle a color's gain control in Indigo, the program is changing the material albedo from 1.0...

Re: Gain Issue
So the plot thickens: I found in the scene file that when I wiggled the gain control in Indigo it changes the Max 1.0 gamma settings to 2.2 gamma. My RGB color values are all linear 1.0, Max outputs them as 1.0 to the scene file; why would Indigo change the gamma to 2.2? The color looks right at 2.2...

Gain Issue
Indigo 3.8.31 3D Max Hi Everyone, I have been trying to figure out why I have been getting material colors that are too light in Indigo and may have found a gain issue / conflict. I'm hoping its just a setting issue you can help me solve. I was running a test when I found the problem: I created 4 ba...

Re: Emitter Material Questions
You called it right Jay-ko: My scale was off resulting in the perception of incorrect attenuation and luminous values. I usually work in Maya with only one scale value and didn’t realize the measure scale was separate from system scale in Max. I have the scene set to meters now and the attenuation i...

Re: Emitter Material Questions
Thanks again Jay-Ko. Sorry for being so long replying to your post. I've been studying the system and I'm starting to get a handle on how it operates. > I switched to linear and that appears to be an improvement. > In regard to the studio lamp intensity, I collected the studio lamp data as just an i...

Re: Emitter Material Questions
Many thanks for your advice. It looks like I will need to use the standalone Indigo to handle lighting / emitter materials. Doing so will eliminate many of my concerns. I appreciate the tip in regard to the system’s ability to accept RGB values higher than 255. I’ve tested several different tabulate...

Emitter Material Questions
I’m conducting research for a Master project using Indigo plugin for 3ds Max. Specifically I’m trying to recreate primitive lighting in a virtual environment to see how it was used and affected our daily lives in the past. As you can imagine my lighting needs to behave as natural / general as possib...
