Re: Question about my displacement methodology
I think that did the trick. It appears the the problem is with my inability to make a proper displacement map in Photoshop now. I much prefer that issue than not seeing anything at all. Thanks, guys.

Question about my displacement methodology
Here's the dilemma; I can't get my textures to "pop out". No matter what I do, the textures do NOT appear to be sticking out of the model, shaping the shadows around the new shapes. I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong; 1. I apply the texture of a roof. 2. I take the same texture into Photo...

Re: My best renders so far...
VERY interesting. I didn't even know "straight verticals," as it's known, was even a concept. Thank you for that link.

Re: My best renders so far...
Thanks for the help!
Proportion, check. I'll work on that. I seem to have a problem with making rooms that are huge that don't translate at all in a render image.
Voytech, what do you mean by straight verticals?

My best renders so far...
So these represent about 5.5 months of self-taught effort in SketchUp in various projects that I've done. I would love any input, critique, etc. that you guys/gals have to offer. I sit here looking at this stuff thinking 'it's never good enough,' 'who would pay for this?', you know where my mind is....

Re: Models start off clean...then devolve. I can't stop it!
You guys are great. Thank you for the strategies you've put forth. Hearing about other people's struggles helps me feel a great deal less inept. I just need to be more diligent all the way around. It appears one of my main issues is that I need to take bites out of a model more and not treat it as a...

Models start off clean...then devolve. I can't stop it!
Hey all, my conundrum is thus; I start my models off with the full intent of keeping them nice and orderly, clean. They end up at the very end as something horribly splinted together just enough that I can take a render shot and that's about it. Lines don't match up, walls uneven, windows nonfunctio...

Beach House Patio
I was looking at some of these other works getting exceptionally green with envy. I figured I'd put up my only piece so far (3 months of practice) that I somewhat like. As if it needs to be said, you guys are brilliant and suggestions/critiques/et cetera are welcomed.

Can somebody explain what this error is?
"A problem occurred with the scene: Scene parsing error: Failed to parse double from ''. (In element 'phong', around line 5, column 9) Indigo version: Indigo Renderer v3.4.18, Windows 64-bit build. No metadata." I then proceeded to delete every single texture from my model, remove any environment ma...

Is it possible to manipulate the Stained Glass texture?
I've got the idea about how to use it but how does one adjust the colors of the material? Can I open it somewhere and edit the shaping? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

One more thing if I may; how does one manipulate the colors of the stained glass?

Re: I can't get the Stained Glass material to work properly
I...I think I love you. I know we've just met...but these feelings... I don't know if you're a male or a female, but you are "The Man" either way. Thank you very much for taking the time to sort out my situation! It means a lot my friend. I am staring at proper stained glass for the first time and I...

Re: I can't get the Stained Glass material to work properly
I wonder if I'm rendering properly >_>
I use the bidirectional with MLT when I'm truly trying to get something nice. I don't know why I use this, I just read somewhere when I was a newborn SU user that this was the ideal for interior shots.

Re: I can't get the Stained Glass material to work properly
I seem to have Indigo Renderer 3.4.18 if that helps at all.

Re: I can't get the Stained Glass material to work properly
Here you are, good sir. I'll keep fiddling here...but you're making me want to look at the render engine now. I'll be checking the specs to make sure I have the capability software-wise. It's absurdly humorous to me that this glass setup that eludes me is the only thing keeping me from a rendered im...
