Yeah, that's good idea, to have a "On" switch in the material properties. if it's "Off" -> it could be exported as Null material or else.

Sorry filippo, but Indigo itself does not support to hide an emitter yet!

But since version 1.0.2 supports ies files, you could make the meshlight
really, really tiny and assign an ies file ... dunno if that will work properly
but AFAIK it should. Give it a try! :D :D ;)

Well that's a cool idea too, but why export it at all if it's turned off?
... and I as I understand filippos request, he would like to hide an
active emitter, so it doesn't show up in the camera and/or in reflections,
but the direct light layer. But as I said, Indigo doesn't support this right
now. :(

yep, psor, that should work exactly like that :)

filippo: you shouldn't make a sphere or anything like that. a single triangle with the normal pointing in the direction of where you want to light to, should work just fine :)

@filippo

If it works the way with the ies, then just create a very, very tiny
three sided polygon - create a dummy and assign a "look at" controller
to the poly to look at the dummy. This way it's pretty easy to control
the direction of the lightsource. Hope this will help you! :D ;)

edit: @suvakas ... if you read this, it would be nice to have the
possibility to use a pointlight with Web distribution and the IES file, to
get exported as a very, very small meshlight that uses the IES file of
the pointlight. I don't know how much work this would be, but it would
be awesome for sure! ;o))

There are some checks to make it exporting right. I'll make a simple conversion function, if Suvakas is too busy with his job right now, as I have some freetime lately. :) Just a simple 1-button action script.
