Hi all,
We're happy to announce a beta of the next version of Indigo - 3.2.0.
We will be releasing betas in the 3.2.x series until we reach a 3.2 stable release of Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT.

UPDATE: updated mac build. Now works on 10.7.

Major changes:
* Much faster CPU rendering.
* New material editing interface; for more information, see the blog post.
* New local and online material database access from the main UI, and the ability to paint materials directly onto objects.
* New sky model, with much more realistic sunsets and dawn/dusk skies.
* Faster scene load times, especially with large environment maps.
* Aperture diffraction is improved in quality and performance.
* The Indigo installers now have some of the exporter installers (for SketchUp, Cinema 4D, and Blender) bundled. The bundled versions are SkIndigo 3.0.15, Cindigo 3.0.15, and Blendigo 3.0.10 (for Blender 2.4x only, you can find 2.5x exporters here: viewforum.php?f=8).

There are also lots of other improvements and bug fixes, which you can read about in the full change log below (up to the last release, 3.0.14).

Please let us know if you find any bugs, thanks!

3.0.21
* Major updates to Indigo SDK
* Major updates to material editing
* Fixed unnecessary tone mapping updates
* Fixed step_size not being parsed for inhomogeneous SSS
* Optimised emitter building. Much faster in the case with no emission param. Somewhat faster in the case with emission param.
* Fixed crash when subdividing quad with no UVs.
* fixed absorption layer parsing for GlossyTransparent
* fixed displacement persisting when changing material type to blend or null

3.0.20
* Added dock widgets to the "Window" menu, for easy access
* Render threads have lower priority to make the UI more responsive

3.0.19
* Rebuilt new sky data.
* Various material editing GUI changes.

3.0.18
* Greatly improved ray tracing speed on SSE3 CPUs.
* Greatly improved scene building speed.
* Refactored env map sampling. Env map processing is now much faster.
* Fixed ray epsilon issue with scaled objects.
* Fixed lack of absorption in path tracing in some cases.
* Added material ID and foreground alpha rendering modes to UI.

3.0.17
* Added detection of inconsistent media volumes - if found it places the camera inside void/vacuum.
* Fixed occassional camera jump when moving camera in realtime.
* Now reporting the total render time and SPP after render stopped.

where? single folder, entire hd? can be set?

please add a progression bar or a message... or add material 1 by 1 on list... because seems frozen until the end of the search!!!

..."show material folder" don't work for me...

@ritter, Voytech, zeitmeister:

I added the links to the mac builds. These builds should work in 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7, but CUDA and OpenCL will only work in 10.6+.

CUDA still requires the dev drivers. You can find a link to them on the downloads page.

Just a word of caution to SkIndigo users. There are a couple of issues/bugs in SkIndigo 3.0.15 (which is packed into Indigo 3.2) that may cause some problems when rendering. You may want to revert to SkIndigo 3.0.14 or wait until the next SkIndigo beta (to be released VERY soon) instead of installing the version that is included with Indigo 3.2.0 especially if you are doing critical production work.

Here are some Numbers from my Tests, a quick 2min test roundup for 7 of my scenes.

Imrod: +12,5% speed - 61% load time
Product Viz: +56% speed - 55% load time
Grass: +24% speed - 24% load time
Cinema: +20% speed - 15% load time
Bedroom II MLT: +12% speed - 60% load time
Bedroom II PT: +13% speed - 60% load time
Kitchen: +11% Speed - 55% load time
Bedroom: +32% speed - 44% load time

There is some nice speedup for scenes with looong Triangle Polys (Product Viz & Bedroom are from CAD data and have a lot of such...)

regarding the faster EnvMap calculation the startuptime is fastened up:
empty scene with a XXL EnvMap of 14144 x 7072 (292MB) only:

3.0.14: 17.2sec
3.2.0: 2.5sec
