This doesn't seem right...

Post by Jeremy_235 » Sun Oct 09, 2016 9:37 am

Hi there,
I am a first time Indigo Renderer user. I was trying out a simple scene to render. A box like structure (in sketchup) with phong materials on all surface except one which is metallic.

The render still hasn't finished after 12 hours. Is that normal? It doesn't seem right to me.

I have a Mac Pro 6 Core Intel Xeon 3.46 GHz, 64GB memory

I had a search online and I'm using the bidirectional path tracing.

I have just setup an even simpler scene. Just a single box with phong material on all surfaces. Set it to Path Tracing this time. Hasn't been rendering for long yet. Will see how that goes.

So anything I can do to speed this up? Is it my hardware?

Thanks.

Thanks everyone.

Welcome to the forums! Looks like someone hasn't read the FAQ: http://www.indigorenderer.com/faq#t12n970

:)

Indigo is a progressive renderer - you simply stop rendering when you think the image is good enough. In case of that cube there, that shouldn't be more than a minute or so, but for interiors sometimes hours.

Hi

Congratulations on your computer, what video card you have?
Your object was ready after 1/2 seconds!

Oh my bad!
Thanks everyone for the clarification.
I misunderstood the function of the progressive render. I knew that I could save an image at any time along the way but I thought that once the image reached a maximum quality it automatically stopped. So just to confirm, if I don't stop the render manually it will keep going forever?

I'm relieved to know that my system and the application are working fine.
My graphics card is a Radeon 7950

That's correct. :) You can set a halt time parameter though, especially useful for animations.
