MTL & Bdir off doesnt help, or does indigo use MTL for SSS by default.
No help turning off cauchy b coeff, lowering ior, iso 25, EV 0
Reinhard looks black, camera white.

Maybe it's some unphysical disbalance between absorption and scattering.

About the first image : advanced tonemappers should not be used to compare scene lightness, as they use complex local/global light correction. Sometimes, a small darker or brighter object in the image results in overall change in brightness with camera and reinhardt.

Therefore, linear is the only correct way to be sure that brightness has really changed.

I tested again high SSS value in 2.4.13.
It rendered fine some time maybe 30 minits or so, then after 1 hour about there was random color pixels, no shape of geometry. Even linear doesn't help.

BTW insane how fast is rendering speed in simple path mode, no MLT no BiDir.

Perhaps it was fixed in Indigo 3.xxx

I upload the material for testing, if someone is interested
The material doesn't render with BiDir.

It seems to be fixed in new Indigo. :)
After 1,5 hour the render looks fine.

Indigo 3 ROCKS so hard :D
26 hours and no problem with darkening.

I have to test my old scene too, but your rendertime is unacceptable O.o

If you also raise the absorption spectrum you'll notice a nice speed bump!

Yeah i better lower the SSS, but still very impressive speed fot single dual core cpu.
