I tried a very simple geometry and get the error you can see in the image. I never noticed this behaviour in the past and have no idea where it comes from. Any idea?

Looks like a depreciated polygon; which you should avoid in any cases.

Hi, sorry for the late reply!
This is indeed probably caused by degenerate triangles created from polygons with a large number of sides, very long and thin triangles which mess with computations such as normal smoothing.
Try turning off normal smoothing for the flat surfaces (if you're using Blendigo, you'll need to wait for the next release).
