Thx guys. Definitely need a computer upgrade in order to make this into an animation! Although the render time wasn't too bad at all for this one.

Thanks man! That was weird! For about a day the thumbprint led to a completely different thread. It was only fixed today. I think they made a mistake by putting my image on the front page!

A render farm wouldn't be expensive with a few used P4 computers for less than $100 each. 20 cores for $2000? not too bad! Just get the old computers from some corp. upgrading to vista and use psexec to control it... it wouldn't be that hard. No programming would be required except for knowing the basics of writing a simple batch file.
Do you think fast ethernet would be good enough for a cheap renderfarm?
Argh! Sorry. This is totally off-topic. Nice scifi! (I liked the animation on that other guy's page, but indigo could do better! Haha!)

Why purchase vista, anyways? The used PCs would have xp pro on them, no chance of Vista. Plus, you could probably just boot them to a linux usb pen with indigo on it.
You could use some older machines from AMD, too (sempron doesn't have the same long-pipeline problems as P4).
Is there a good benchmark comparison of various systems? How much of a difference does RAM make, assuming, of course, you aren't swapping?

Hi guys. I've always admired the short animations Stefan Morrell often attaches to his pieces. So I've had a go at doing one. It's here, still pretty full of bugs but I'm working towards a final version:
