Cup of fruit

Post by madcoo » Wed Sep 02, 2009 7:40 pm

Hi all!

Here's a new one!
:D

So...
It's not perfect at all, don't worry I know that already!

1) the oranges look like those plastic fruit kids play with :?
I think this is mostly due to the following:
- It's the first time I've used Displacement, and I have to admit that it took me hours before I could get a result close to what I had in mind - still, it's quite far from what I want - I think Displacement is quite hard to "master" - any tips welcome!
- The modelling of the oranges is very basic, which doesn't help with realism : it's only orange spheres indeed... with pinches of Sculpting so they don't look perfectly spherical...

2) The apples on either side of the orange don't look like they are resting at the bottom of the cup - they tend to "levitate" a bit.

3) The bananas could do with a dimmer yellow texture (or a more "brownish" colour) - although I used proper pictures to do the texture...

In my defense, though, I have to say that these fruit are not intended to be seen from such a close distance.
I made them so I could put them later on in future scenes (in a kitchen, on a dining table, etc.)

As always : please comment on this, I NEED TO LEARN !!!
:D

See ya guys!!!
:D

Good render to me

Maybe change your focus distance.
Your yellowish light setup saturated a bit your banana and orange, but it's good :D

Thanks!
:D

Yep, indeed the yellowish light doesn't help with the already yellow bananas...

I'll remember that!

I don't think I could give advices because I'm afraid it's beyond my knowledge, but I'll say I love your first attempt.

edit : doh ! One small advice though : subdivide a little bit more your plate :D

I agree, it's subtle but you can notice the hard edges on the sides of the render.

Dammit!
Thought it would go unnoticed!!!

Indeed the plate needs subdividing, but since it's aimed at being seen from a distance, maybe it won't need it...

Thanks for your compliments!
