Liquids Test Thread
Liquids Test Thread
First up:
Milk(reduced) from the Indigo Manual. I rendered this to something like 14,000spp and then i realized that I did not have the proper phase function settings. It was set to Uniform instead of Henyey-Greenstein. However, when I started the render again using HG, the results seemed to be nearly identical, except for more bright blotches that cleared extremely slowly. I abandoned the HG render because I thought the result using Uniform phase function turned about pretty decent.
Feel free to post your own liquid tests, but please make sure the following:
- The scene is modelled real-world scale
- Liquids in glasses are modelled as shown in the Indigo Manual with correct precedence settings
- Please share your material settings

Coke from the Indigo Manual:
Seems a tad dark to me. Might look better with ice cubes and some fizz bubbles.
All renders tests done with Indigo 2.0.X Bidirectional MLT unless noted otherwise.

Re: Liquids Test Thread
Nice but, like said above the milk somewhat does look like paint, also the coke is wayyyyy too dark. I drink a ton of it
Also why is the milk faceted where as the coke isnt?

Re: Liquids Test Thread
Because he probably realised, after having rendered the milk, that he had forgot to push the "smooth" button
Same remarks as above, the milk looks like paint and the coke is a bit dark. Is your scene scaled correctly ?

Re: Liquids Test Thread
I've also been playing with some SSS liquids lately. Wanted to try out the orange juice material Whaat made. I hope you don't mind me posting my tests here too?
The 1st img is Whaat's juice mat. Works very good I think!! Thanks Whaat!
And the 2nd is my try on low fat milk from Indigo's manual. I tweaked the sss values a bit for it.

True. I see them too. I wonder if it could be SSS related thing?Borgleader wrote:Call me paranoid but I see facets on your too

I am 99% sure my meshes were smoothed. I think it could be a bug with SSS. Liquids with small SSS values are not showing this faceting for me.suvakas wrote:True. I see them too. I wonder if it could be SSS related thing?Borgleader wrote:Call me paranoid but I see facets on your too

Re: Liquids Test Thread
I can't see them on the orange juice so I guess you're right it could be a problem with the SSS behavior.

Re: Liquids Test Thread
Another render of my juice material. Not sure why it's blackish around the meniscus. This is apparent on suvakas' render too

Re: Liquids Test Thread
Tbh i think its normal. At that spot the "juice" is very thin and clearer, and so the black comes from the joining of the clear "water" and the glass kind of like the top of the glass. Or at least I think so.
Not sure my post made sense but,,,

Watered down wine:
These tests compare Merlot wine renders at various concentrations (diluted in water) to the renders in the Jensen paper. Although the renders are similar, it is clear that the Indigo renders seem to absorb more. The Indigo parameters are from the Indigo manual (converted from the Jensen paper). I am quite certain the values in the Indigo manual are correct. I checked them several times. Is it possible that Indigo is not calculating absorption correctly?

Yeah, there's something incorrect somewhere.
