I tried a new painted glass material and it turned black..

For the bottle.. I have seperate mats for the painted part and the non painted part.. Would that cause a problem?

Probably, yes. Mediums must be applied to closed volumes. If a ray enters the (open) volume and exits through a gap, Ingigo will still consider it as within the medium, wich would be erroneous. To prevent this and ensure the ray hits an exit point in all cases, the volume must be closed.

ah I misread you sorry  Separate mats, not separate parts you said... a blend you mean ? well I don't know how indigo behaves when the specular is blended with anoter opaque map, and when the opaque mat value is 100%...

I would create a separate geometry for the stencil, less problems for sure.
