Nice test Rezca!

Higher Cauchy B value or different tonemapping!
Also a more focused Light would help here, give a custome made IES a try where you can define the light to move parallel ;)

Hi Rezca,
The angular spread on the light being emitted from the lamp thingy is a bit large. You want all the light to be emitted in a very narrow beam. This is a bit tricky in Indigo currently, if you wait a little while I will be implementing 'laser-like' emission, i.e. light is only emitted in the normal direction. This should help a lot for this scene.

Rezca, looks good! I used a laser ies for the image which is my avatar... maybe worth a try... I used it on a small plane at the end of a black tube with a narrow vertical slot in the front (where the light came out) http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/dow ... &mode=view
The ies file I used was from this thread (in the zip file) http://www.luxrender.net/forum/viewtopi ... =36&t=6485

Sorry for the link to a competitor!

No worries, it's good info, and some Glare people used to work on Lux Render :)

Tried a few of the suggestions...

Turned up the cauchy a slight amount, made the box surrounding the light as narrow as I could make it without the vertices actually intersecting each other, and tried using the IES file bubs provided.

The IES made a noticeable effect on the scene, though it completely flooded the scene with light somehow (I really don't understand how lights and emission work in Indigo, no matter how many posts I read about the matter  ) and fiddling with the light settings (RBG, Blackbody, Normalize, etc) didn't do much.

Narrowing the polygons surrounding the light had a small effect, but nothing drastic.

Maybe this is working as it should be and I'm just expecting something completely different heh, but I do get jealous with all these fancy light tricks others have posted and not knowing how they accomplished it. At least I'm getting caustics this time - last attempt with the gemstones didn't even produce a glare!

Really wish I still had that other scenefile though... Nice caustics completely by accident and I have no idea what I did to get them :(

in général in prism scenes, the beam is aimed at about the centre of one back face rather than the front face. That way the beam can be reflected into more varied paths. as stated, the wider the beam the more the caustics will get mixed with their neighbours into white light.
