Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
Hi,
I'm rendering an interior unit but still too fuzzy even though it's been rendered for more than 40 hrs with 4000 resolution.
Please help me out with this.
Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums!
We need a little more information about your scene, lighting and and rendering setup in order to help you.

Re: Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
Hi,
Thanks for replying on my question.
So the render's been 105 hours with network rendering, but still fuzzy.
Please help me out.
Thank you.

Re: Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
Are you using exit portals for the windows? Have you tried simple BiDir without MLT?
Another thing you can try is to turn off the light layers one by one, until you find the light source that gives the noise. When you've found that light source, increase the power by something like 10 to tell the CPU to give that light source render priority. Then you can pull the intensity back using its light layer.
By the way, you might as well stop the render now, it's probably never going to clean up until we find out what might be wrong.

When you mentioned simple BiDir without MLT, does it mean BiDir Path Tracing?
Also, I checked the light layers, turning off one by one, but I don't think it matters.
How long does it usually take for 4000 resolution by your experience?
Thank you.

Re: Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
So there's no single light layer that seems extra noisy?
Depends a lot on your hardware of course, but a 4k render with your lighting situation should probably be clean after about 15 hours on a single Quad i7. By clean I mean that it should have very little visible noise. Yours has an awful lot of noise after over 100 hours. That is definitely NOT a normal rendering time and to be honest, if it's not at least approaching a clean look after two or three hours it's probably better to investigate what might be wrong in the scene setup rather than letting it render for days.
You could always post the scene file here or post a dropbox link for us to troubleshoot. But again, try BiDir path-tracing with Exit Portals, that might help.

Re: Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
So Oscar, what is exit portals? How do I use it?
I attached my computer condition below.
Thanks.

Re: Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
That's a nice CPU, should be plenty enough speed to render interiors.
Here's info on how to use exit portals. The search option in the top right corner actually works very well, and I'm sure there are plenty of other threads on how to further optimise your scene.

Re: Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
So, I don't see any exit portal check box...
How do I make that show up?
Thanks, Oscar.

Re: Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
Oh I'm sorry, if I recall correctly that option was moved to materials settings, so hopefully you'll be able to find the option there.
To Glare Tech: that tutorial should probably be updated with correct information ASAP. It is definitely not the first time someone wonders where the Exit Portal option went.

Re: Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
So I added the exit portal block in the fore ground of the rendering.
Now it blocks the sun light coming from window outside.
How come does that happen?

Re: Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
Their exit portal normals might be wrong, they should be pointing inwards. Also the light from those lamps seem to be extremely noisy, maybe you've found your culprit?
Re: Interior Rendering Too Fuzzy
How do you make it pointing inwards, then?
