Violet 0.1.3-rd Binaries + Sources Posted

Post by rerdavies » Sat May 19, 2007 4:15 pm

Please excuse the thrash.

There are no substantial changes in functionality between the 0.1.2 and 0.1.3 binaries. The primary purpose of the posting is to post a complete matching set of binaries and sources, including a clean vs2003 build procedure.

Installer for Windows 32 Version of Violet 0.1.3-rd

http://www.ottawajazzcollective.com/dow ... taller.zip

Compiled with with Visual Studio 2005. This version uses all available processors when rendering images on the background thread. This is the preferred version of the binaries.

Windows 32-bit .EXE file for use on Wine

http://www.ottawajazzcollective.com/dow ... rd-2k3.zip

Visual Studio 2003 build of Violet 0.1.3-rd. The priniciple virtue of this package is that it works on Wine. Background rendering does not exploit multiple processors in this build (Visual studio 2003 doesn't support OpenMP).

Sources for Violet 0.1.3-rd

http://www.ottawajazzcollective.com/dow ... rd-src.zip

Complete sources for Violet 0.1.3-rd. Includes clean-build solutions for for Visual Studio 2003 (in the vs2003 directory) and Visual studio 2005 (in the vs2005 directory). The visual studio 2003 build does not provide multi-processor support. The visual studio 2005 build uses all available processors, when rendering on the background thread. The visual studio build also includes an installer project. Please remember to roll the build numbers in the VioletTonemapper.exe resource file, and in the installer project if you plan to publicly distribute an installer build.

Known Issues

The program icon is now violet. But it's ugly. Contributions by master icon artistes would be very much welcomed.

Wow, great job !

I haven't been using a recent version of violet for awhile now and just tried this one and it is really fast!

I have one request though for the linear tonemapping tab - can you include a "brightness" slider as well ?

edit: another request :D ->> Would it be possible to export to EXR as well from Violet? I am just wondering because this would be the easiest way to import 24 bit images into Photoshop for further editting.

edit edit: and another one: how about having an option for saving settings and also creating a batch file mode so groups of images or animations can be adjusted easily?

"brightness" will basically do the same thing as the already present "exposure" i think :?

To me it seems "exposure" in general will affect highlights and bright areas much more than dark areas, so the "brightness" I would like to see would be an overall image adjustment where both the highlights and the shadows are affected evenly.

I think I might be using the wrong word for it :?

Exposure effects bright and dark areas evenly. It definitely brings out details in shadows if that's what you need. It's exactly the same as brightness, except that units are those that a photographer would be familiar with.

If I'm not mistaken, indigo already renders to exr directly. What's the use case? Tonemap in violet, and then go to Photoshop? I'll look into that.

Question for Ono: how does Indigo handle EXR now? Via the ILM library? How easy is it to link in?

Yes, that's a good one. Settings is a good idea. (and batch mode is pretty easy too, with settings).

Looks good; but... Two asks wrt/ the icon. I need it in a larger size so that I can downsample it to 48x48 icons and 32x32 icons. 96-ish or larger would be good. And, if you can, a little more contrast on the V: it doesn't survive in the dreaded 16x16 icon (I may be able to save it, if you can't increase the contrast).
