Notice how you can't see through the glass. Furthermore, take a look at the trees and the fencing. The parts which are supposed to be transparent, aren't. I think these two issues are related, I just have no idea how. The other two images show relevant settings, but are too big to display. Some help would be greatly appreciated.
Err...also....I'm kinda new to rendering, so please don't flood me with vocab and settings
Glass and Transparencies Will Not Render
Re: Glass and Transparencies Will Not Render
question:
windows glasses are volumes or planes!??!!?!?!?
for planes use:

for volumes use:

for clipmap... follow this:

p.s. grass is very bad.... use clipmap method or makefur plugin on http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=243652

Re: Glass and Transparencies Will Not Render
It can be several things, scene scale, closed meshes, facing normals. To make glass, always make a separate mesh (the window pane) outside of the model and group/component it so that it does not merge with surrounding faces. Use the tape measure tool to check the distances and make sure they are accurate (Glass should be ~8mm). I usually measure a door to see if the scene is in scale (1.8~2m).
Re: Glass and Transparencies Will Not Render
To snorky, both of the regular methods did not work. I applied the ghost glass to it, and that didn't work. Further, changing the clipmaps to png's did not work either, it simply made the boxes turn from white to black.
As for soup, I've done other experiments where a sheet of glass is isolated and I have the same results.
Does the fact that the glass has no depth cause a problem.
P.S. fur is awesome

Put a light behind the window!!!!
Re: Glass and Transparencies Will Not Render
The glass has to have 'depth' - this is so that light can pass through it.Flyboy wrote:To snorky, both of the regular methods did not work. I applied the ghost glass to it, and that didn't work. The clipmap issue is separate from the glass one.
Re: Glass and Transparencies Will Not Render
Hi flyboy, we need exact informations to be able to help you. Let's speak only about the workflow you used for the posted image, for clarity.
You mentioned boxes using clipmaps. Leafs must be planar-ish, but not boxes. Someone did use boxes recently for leafs, it is wrong to follow that example, simply.
Can you please state clearly wether the glass panes are made of a plane or box, and, wich material they have applied upon them ?
Last, wich rendering method did you use ? Some are not recommended for this kind of shot, they would have a too low efficiency while others would perform way better.

Re: Glass and Transparencies Will Not Render
Hi guys, fortunately I was able to get the glass to work, I made the glass as planes, which apparently was the issue. Thanks for the help.
However, the clip maps still won't work, and I have no idea why that is the case. CTNz, the clipmaps are planes. I tried making the fence 3d with the faces facing out (the problem with my original attempt at 3D glass was that the faces were facing inward) and as you can see in the bellow picture, that did not work.
This should give you guys a pretty good standing on what works and what doesn't. As said the glass now renders, but the black boxes around the clipmaps are still there. The png fix that snorky linked to does not work in this case, and, as stated, simply makes the boxes turn black as oppose to white.
