SU model took 14hrs to render and its still going.

Post by alexccmeister » Fri Sep 19, 2008 5:36 pm

Hi all,

My first post here. What a wonderful this Indigo renderer is. I have been using SU for a while and have done a lot of models. Was looking for a renderer when I came across Podium. But that is not free. Anyway, here is a sample house I rendered. But it took me 14hrs to render to this point and it is still going.

Plus the setting is the default as I am still learning. But imagine when I put in lights here and there. I am sure the redering time will double.

Yes, alex: times with unbiased render engines could be terribly long..
Nontheless, the final result is more accurate, and if you've been careful enough setting your mats parameters you can achieve true photorealistic images!
I think it's worth the wait..

Cheers and welcome!

adding lightsources doesn't immediately mean that the render time gets longer ;) under some circumstances, the progress actually can get faster!

What you really need to avoid (and it looks to me as if you used a lot of it), is pure white. For example, a standard sheet of paper has a reflectivity of ~80% which means, the "white" is actually a bright grey with the values of 0.8 0.8 0.8 ;)
Avoiding any pure white will fasten up your render ;)

Hi Blaze,

My system is Pentium 4 2.5GB RAM 2.4GHz speed. Fast enough? Its quite an old computer compared to today's duo core and such.

"Fast enough" is relative. But in my opinion, it is ;) I'm on 3GHz dual but therefore only 1280 MB of Ram... (updated not so long ago. before, I used 768 MB)
