So all sides top left right and bottom of the box need to be exit portals to? Because when you say you paint all sides it will reference and make them all exit portals, if your using the same mat.

Basicly my question is do I need the exit portal to be in on the out and inside of the box? or do I need it to be on all sides at all times?

I ask this because I just noticed that the top and bottom side of the box in your example are not closed but open.

Still white as hell I boxed all sides and have EP's on all faces of the box.

I wonder if there is just simply no getting around it?

that looks right, I guess I'm not sure what you are looking for.

although i never paint the backsides of surfaces so that I can easily tell that I don't have any reversed normals.

In my pic above I have cut a section through the wall/window just for illustration purposes.

so,
outside of room(better than saying box)
normals facing inward
paint all the insides of the exit portal box

i did a quick test right now and my windows are getting blasted too... refer to images.

as a side note (or two):
1. your double-hung windows are hung backwards, the top of the window should be out farthest
2. i cant seem to do any tonemapping within indigo anymore, my sliders have been rendered useless! :(

*edit* tonemapping problems related to 1.1.10? back in 1.1.9 sliders work as expected.
