I've been playing around with the displacement function and maybe I found out something interesting.

The attatched image i made by selecting the box, apply the material, and then soften the edges to 180 degrees. When softening the edges the problem with gap between the faces disappear.

Was this new or am I to slow? :shock:

By the way, Thanks for a greath application!

I can't seem to be able to reproduce your example.
Did you put subdivsion 'on'? ..and which Max subd value?

I just uploaded the stonematerial to the database!

With the settings I wrote just above it works fine on my pc!

By the way, I'm using indigo 1.1.5.

I tried your settings but even then I obtain unpredictable output.
The RAM usage on the current displacement is also a hasard and since there is no 64 bit version yet of 1.1.5, I am going back to 1.0.9 for the time being.

Thats strange KB!

I just tryed on my pc at work, and its still working just fine.

The attatched image shows how it looks when only one edge is soften to 180 degrees!

I use the 32 bit version and I have no problems with the usage of ram. My pc has only 2 GB installed.

I know, it is quite strange.
On my PC, the resulting output seems to depend on the method of texturing one uses.
= Projecting textures vs. default 'paint bucketing' , painting double sided vs. mono sided, assigning a mat to just faces vs. both faces and edges etc...

I am not really sure what is the proper method texturing to get clean results using displacement.

When I find the time I will try again ( I have backup folders of SK 1.1.5 in my plugins folder so I can swith easily between versions by simply renaming the ruby and folders).

:oops: I have a rookie question:
I have 1.0.9 Stable release.

Where does one find all these settings??

<quote>Displacement is set to 0.05
Subdivision Smoothing not checked
Max Subdivisions 8
Pixel Threshold -1
Curvature Threshold 0
Bump.
dis.
</quote>

In my skindigo Material Editor
type: Diffuse
i just have Material Attributes with a check box disable smoothing, and Maps SketchupBump Gain
Albedo dropdown list #input ...
clip dropdown list

Then in "..." button
I have the 5# inputs -->A, B, C Gamma, and UV Set.

Thanks for the help.
Thanks

there isnt a displacement feature in indigo 1.0.9 ( and so skinigo 1.0.9.)

If you want to experimnt with displacement you need to download skindigo and indigo 1.1.5

I have been having some strange results with my displacements most of the time not working. I have let the image cook until about 70spp. Shot from high and low angles, used curved and flat surfaces with no good results for the materials that I'm trying to create.

I was wondering if someone could offer more information of the 6 settings that kwistenbiebel wrote about. A breif discription of the item, what is the settings affect to the image, max and min values and a suggestion value and their relationship to the other settings.

<quote>
1. the Gain
2. the Max subdivions
3. pixel treshold
4. curvature treshold
5. a
6. b
7. c
</quote>

I think this information would be very useful to the rookies (like me) in understanding this setting so we can start to create great materials.

Thanks for any information.

A little up on this thread : I experienced the same issues as described above (splitted faces) with Skindigo 1.1.12 / Indigo 1.1.13.
As suggested by ARK, the problem disappears as soon as you soften edges. In fact, you don't have to go to 180°. The problem is solved as soon as your edges disappear from SU's view. That is, for example, 90° for a cube, 45° for a cube after 1 level of bevel...

This is what you should get with SkIndigo 1.1.12. Not much different from previous releases in this case.
The 'B' value sets the disp. influence/strength
The max subdivisions will cut your mesh to allow a more accurate displacement.

:wink:

I'm using SkIndigo 1.1.12 and also noticed the lack of aforementioned features such as PT and CT. I figured I'd use 1.1.5 in place, but the Indigo 1.1.5 core link appears to be broken.

I'd also like to know which values affect what. Any 1.1.12 users care to explain, terribly? :oops: Any resources?
