MS Vista + SkIndigo 1.0.9 testers wanted
I need a few testers (5 max) for testing SkIndigo with Microsoft Vista. I have been having problems getting material previews to work. Now that I know the cause and solution, I want to know if other users will have the same problem or if mine was an isolated case.
EDIT: test release now available in this thread (see below)
One more thing. You must test this with Indigo 1.0.9 (stable) which is available from the 'Main Download Page'

How would I save the preview material IGS to the temp directory? Is there a way for the preview scene IGS to <include> a file that is in the temp directory?OnoSendai wrote:Yup, it's the compatibility files problem, I can see the preview scene saved in the compatbility files dir.
As I said before, try saving the mat preview scene elsewhere (temp dir or indigo dir)
For example:
Code: Select all
<include>{TEMP}\previewmats.igs</include>
When I preview a material, I only write to the 'previewmats.igs' file which just contains the material definition. I don't want to write the entire scene to the temp folder. Is this possible?
FYI, I used to write the preview file to the indigo directory but this caused a couple of problems so i changed it:
1) It results in extra installation steps (user must copy previews folder to indigo directory)
2) I forget the other problems it caused
Ah I see, you want to use an existing preview IGS on disk without exporting it.
What you could do, is copy the preview IGS from the sketchup directory to the temp directory, when the user clicks on preview ( You could also check for the existence of the file at the destination path first, to avoid redundant copies )
Then write the previewmats IGS to the temp directory as well.
Then the include line in the preview IGS can simply be

I've been away for a few days (sun and sea )but I'm back and able to do some (small) tests if needed in between my work.

Here is a new public test release. I was forced to change the preview file system due to Vista so installation is a bit more awkward.
Please test material previews (using textures, nkdata, and different preview scenes) and post your experience. I haven't changed anything else besides preview setup.
INSTALLATION
1. Remove any previous versions of SkIndigo from your SketchUp/Plugins directory
2. Copy 'SkIndigo.rb' into your SketchUp/Plugins directory
3. Copy the 'SkIndigo' folder into your SketchUp/Plugins directory
4. Copy the 'SUpreviews' folder to your Indigo directory
4. Run SketchUp
Important: test with Indigo 1.0.9 (from main downloads page).
EDIT: attachments deleted

preview material
Thanks for the update Whaat.
I ran into a little issue when trying to use the 'Preview' in the material editor.
the system used:
Core2duo
Vista 32 bit
SU6 Pro
[EDIT]: SOLVED !
Extracting the SUpreviews zip file (accidentally) made a second Supreviews folder within the first. (..indigo_v1.0.9\SUpreviews\SUpreviews...).
Of course the file structure needs to be (..indigo_v1.0.9\SUpreviews\...).
A tip for users installing the plugin: See to it there are no 'doubled' folders.
All material preview scenes (the monkey is my favorite )seem to work without flaws.
