Hey Thom,
suvakas has you on the converters,
let us know how it goes.
I have had no luck using exr for background images in architectural renderings. They always come out all stretched.

I can't seem to get the converter to work, but that's okay because I just remembered I have Photoshop, which has an integrated HDR to EXR converter.
And heavens, it worked in Indigo!

I used phototoshop to convert to EXR. Its as easy as saving it.

but, does it need to be 2:1 or does it need to be 360deg format?
All i have found are 180deg images
