UV Mapping Clarification Needed

Post by chris255 » Sat Mar 24, 2012 4:00 am

Hello to all,

Been struggling with this all day. Anyone patient enough to give me a step-by-step will be met with instant good karma.

Reading through the Sketchup Exporter Manual, under UV Mapping. Trying to follow the steps below.

1. Here is an example run-through on how to set a textured object with
a differently positioned bump map:

2. Set the desired bump map as the albedo for positioning purposes. used Brick_Antique material in sketchup and applied it to faces

3. Set the bump map position with the SketchUp tools (Rightclick >
Texture > Position)done

4. Rightclick > SkIndigo UV Mapping > Save UVs to set 2 done

5. Saving the current texture position to a UV set done

6. Change the albedo to the actual albedo and the the bump to the
bump. does this mean:

a) open Skindigo Material Editor > Set Albedo to 'Texture' > Click 'Skindigo Texture Editor button > select texture from drop-down box > repeat for Bump with different texture.

or b) replace texture on faces with a new material in sketchup (i have assumed this method)

7. Position the Albedo with the texture tools and save it as UV set 1.
Selecting the UV set in the texture editor done

8. In the SkIndigo Material editor, open the Texture Editor for the albedo
and change the UV Set to 1. Set the bump map's UV Set to 2 done

9. Now it will use different texture positions for the albedo and bump
map. Render to test.[/i]

This probably seems painfully straightforward to most of you but it's been driving me nuts. I guess it's easy when you know how.

Hello,

I think you got it all right. Did it not work? For step 6, you need to change the SketchUp texture to the actual albedo texture (unless you are using an external texture map).

The workflow for this has actually changed completely in version 3.2. It should be a bit simpler now. However, I know I need to do a thorough video tutorial to make sure its clear to everyone.

that video would come SO handy . i am struggling with the UV mapping UI. And by struggling I mean: no results after hours of trial and forum search.
