UV Mapping Help in 3.0.14

Post by sidewalk » Wed Nov 09, 2011 10:12 am

I'm having trouble mapping an external displacement texture to faces with a color material only. I go through all the motions for adding a new external texture, and my positioned displacement map seems to save correctly, but then my map coordinates are always overridden by the SketchUp default coordinates (and the texture is always scaled at 1 unit x 1 unit (I'm in inches)). In short, my texture positions are ignored once rendered.

I've also tried the appropriate workflow on 3.2.1, and the issue is the same.

I've attached some screenshots so you can see the issue. Am I overlooking something obvious?

I'm on:
Indigo 3.0.14
Skindigo 3.0.14
Mac 10.6.8

Thanks!

It looks like you are doing it right.

Is the red material applied directly to the faces of the cube, or do you have the red material applied to the group or component?

I just tried it both ways. First with the red material applied to the faces, and the SU default material applied to the group. Then reversed, with the SU default material applied to the faces, and the red material applied to the group. My UV map was ignored in both cases.

However...

I did get two different results with each scenario. I applied the UV map to a 1ft x 1ft cube. In this first scenario (red material on faces, default material on group), the displacement texture is rendered at 1in x 1in units. In the second scenario (default material on faces, red material on group), the displacement texture is rendered at 1ft x 1ft units. (The scale of the SkIndigo UV Helper material is 10in x 10in, but that shouldn't matter, right?)

I've had a number of different SkIndigo builds installed on my machine in the past. I don't feel like I've mis-installed anything, but could that be an issue?

Thanks!

I was able to reproduce this. It is a bug that seems to only occur if there is no texture applied to the material. If you apply a SU texture to your red material, the UV mapping of the displacement should be as expected. I will fix this as soon as I can.

Thanks for the report!

Using a texture instead of a color does yield different results, but they're still not correct on my end. The coordinates of the displacement map are now being determined by the applied material.

Again I tested it with a 1ft x 1ft cube. My custom placement is still being ignored. When the metal material is scaled at 6in x 6in, the displacement map is scaled at 6in x 6in. When the metal material is scaled at 1ft x 1ft, the displacement map is scaled at 1ft x 1ft. See the attached screenshots...

Thanks so much for looking into this for me!
