It depends on what you want to achieve: glossy renders as a blurry glass, so it lets less light pass through.

BTW, I noticed a strange thing, so excuse the odd question: is your model very far from the origin of SU default axis?

In fact it is quite far, like 50 meters. What is the thing you noticed?

50 meters don't seem to be a problem.

I was recently using a geo-referenced (very simple) model, which was something about hundreds of km away from SU origin. My glasses rendered black, even if they were correctly set and modeled.
So I was assuming that could be your issue too.

Maybe try moving your geometry towards the default SU origin. Have you moved the default axes? You can reset their position right-clicking on the current axes and selecting "reset".
