How to make a blue flame?

Post by buzzkill » Sat Mar 19, 2011 3:49 am

Hey guys! I just wanted to pick your brains on something I have been wanting to do. What do you think would be the best way to make a blue flame? I'm looking for something similar to the flame you would see on a gas stove burner. I was thinking of doing maybe a blue glass material and then make it an emitter. Any of you that have done flames before, feel free to give me some pointers or post some images of your samples. I would greatly appreciate it!

Blend material:
- null material
- diffuse material with a blue flame texture and emittance

Blend map would be the shape/opacity of the flame.

Show us the result then

And for those of us (me) who've never bothered to create a material before, how about a brief mini tutorial on how you did it.

I'll post it after letting it render over the weekend. I only let it go for a minute before coming to the realization that it was what I was looking for

Glad it worked :) It works for holographic displays or Avatar-like floating screens as well.

I am interested too!
I tried to do something like that some time ago, but the result was a plane emitting light basically, so the candle could light up things just in front of itself or backwards, but not in the space at its sides
