Shadows rendering even though off in Sketchup?

Post by Bosseye » Sat Feb 05, 2011 4:35 am

'Lo, me again (I seem to spend a lot of time asking questions on here :o ....)

Very quick one, in sketchup you can set whether an entity casts shadows or not. But regardless of whether the entity is casting visible shadows in Sketchup, Indigo renders a shadow regardless.

Any thoughts on how I stop this? I have a view through a large pane of glass to the building opposite which is just a photo texture on a sketchup box. The photo already has shadows on it so I've set the 'building' entity to not cast shadows as a big square shadow spoils the illusion of the background slightly. So the entity isn't actually casting a shadow, but Indigo is rendering as if it is...

It is impossible to make an object NOT to cast a shadow, when using Indigo. Every object casts a shadow in the real life, and so it does in Indigo

I believe this is a "limit" of unbiased renderers in general, but I may be wrong. Kick me if I am.

Ha, I can't escape the miserable boot of real life even when working in the virtual world it seems.

Ok, cheers Pibuz. Wasn't vastly important, just curious.

Indeed, you can. Just use biased renderers

Set the image plane to emit light, and it won't have a shadow :)
