Alpha Map Materials

Post by zeitmeister » Tue Mar 03, 2009 2:12 am

Hi,
would it be possible to implement alpha materials in another way but coding it by hand?

I "handcoded" something according to this tutorial:
http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/fo ... php?t=1225

But if you have several materials with an alpha map, f.e. in architectural renderings with dozens of billboard-plants, this workflow becomes really annoying.
Transparent PNGs still seem not being supported, so what can I do to avoid this lollygagging handcoding?

Thank you in advance!

Yes, it does...
but as I said, if you have 6-9 or more origin billboard-plants or whatever in your scene (not counting the instances), it gets a little bit laborious.

The workflow for this is generating 1 material, changing it to "blend", loading your mask into the alpha channel of this material and drag your second material that should be masked into the "material 1" area of the blend material.... done!

I hope this isn't broken in the last cindigo version... maybe the Preview just crashes, but export should go fine and rendering too!

good luck :)

Ah, okay... this works fine!
You have to assign the blend material (with the only alpha mal activated) to the object, and there it goes.

Thank you!
