yes, i think in the current version you can manually set the camera focus by editing the "focus distance" in the camera object.
and phong-breaks are kind of tricky... im thinking of a way how to do it.
the material tag will be better in the next version.

In the camera object in C4D? I've tried that, all I've received was a very blurry image, no matter what distance I set. I haven't really compared them, so maybe there is a conversion problem, but it didn't seem to work.
Null-objects work, yay I guess I had a boolean somewhere in there, and that's why it failed.
My current solution that works is selecting the parts between phong breaks and putting them into seperate objects. A bit more work, but it works so far.

Hm, maybe a list of things that should be avoided/don't work in the first post would make sense. Maybe someone could assemble one.
Another thing I've noticed: When I use null-objects to group some objects, that works, but it doesn't care if the null-object gets rotated. The direction will stay the same.
