lost newbie

Post by lenogre » Mon Nov 25, 2013 9:01 pm

Hi,

This is the first time I use an external renderer. Never tried VRay, Maxwell or Octane.

Installation is very simple (mac user) and renders are easy to do in the c4d picture viewer but there is a point that I don't understand : why I've installed 2 softwares Indigo and Indigo RT. What is the use of Indigo RT ? Is it just a "poor" license or a software with another functions ? What means RT ? Real Time ? Like Octane.
It's very confuse for me.

I've noticed that we can't assign several materials on same polygons. I work for watchmaking industry and I always have 2 shaders : one for background (brushed silver for example) and one for printing.

Despite of these questions, Indigo is very fast and metals are incredibly realistics !

Indigo RT is a version with some limitations but a lovly pricetag.
Both version work the same way besides this restrictions for the RT version 8)

Ok, I've changed the path in my prefs (indigo > indigo RT). Works similar.

I've noticed that render never stops like C4D PhysicalRender Progressive mode. Can we force it to stop with a preset ?

Hi lenogre, Indigo has this material called 'blend', wich allows to mix two materials according to a 'mask' (blend) texture, like fonts for instance. Since blend materials can also be blended together, there is virtually no limits on the number of materials per triangle.

Hi lenogre,

there are the halt time (seconds) and halt spp (samples per pixel) settings which you can use to control when the render stops.

Regards,
Yves

Default settings :
halt time -1
halt samples per pixel -1

When I'm doing a render, I can see Rendering : XX.X s/px. I would like control XX.X

Default settings are incomprehensible for me.

Hi all, for my first post !

Hello Lenogre, nice to see you here, and again > FrenchC4D :D
First stop your render, go to Render Settings et put what you want in Halt time or Halt SSP.
Start rendering, it will stop on your choice.

There is a french section in Language forum :

Ok, verstanden.
Negative values never stop rendering. Renderings begin at 0...

Ho compreso (via Reverso)... I mean, despite the use of an german word there's a good chance that lenogre can not speak it ! Wait and see; oder was bitte excusieren Sie mich (ok I for one tried ;) ).

Je fais partie des français qui pourraient vous répondre au sujet d'Indigo en général dans le forum dédié (je ne suis pas un utilisateur de C4D).

Ciao !

I don't speak german. I've learned it when I was 11 years old. I've almost all forgotten...

Well, I continue my exploration. I've downloaded some materials. Half ones are in .pigm and others in igm.xml.
I've seen some terrific code lines (puke !). I don't want to be a programmer, I can do some Xpresso but not this.
About xml, I suppose we can copy/paste but it's a bit confuse for me.

I've noticed that SLA shaders are not converted (what a surprise !) and I'm looking for good anisotropic materials. Many materials in the database are quasi all in xml. I don't how configure them.

Material thumbnails are very, very dark. Not easy to find the good one. We can change the shape but it's not a good point.

1/ Pictures are rendering in the c4d picture viewer.
Is there a benefit to render pictures in Indigo interface ?

2/ About NK (IOR). Lot of values. Some are easy to understand (Al, Au, Cu, Diam) but most have no signification for me. Is there a translation for that ?
