how can i render hair or eyelashes or pretty anything that needs alpha/transparency channels? obviously i need the diffuse, alpha/transparency channel for the textures. but when i pick the diffuse option there is no option for alpha or transparency...

Use the blend channel and don't use another material to blend, then you will get transparency

If you use a PNG with alpha, not in a separate channel, but simply a texture with transparency, then Indigo uses that :)
