Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings
Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings
Hi,
i am pretty new to this forum and not quite sure, if this is the right place for this posting, but anyway:
I use Cinema4d + Indigo for about a year now and I m very pleased by the quality of this renderer.
Unfortunately since end of the last year I have a problem: my renderings are fragmented. I add an example to this posting to show what I mean.
This Problem appears with Cinema R11,5 and sadly with the R12 too. The fact that it first appeared about two month ago leads me to the assumption, that this is not a cinema but a Indigoproblem.
The rendermodus is: MLT
I use Cindigo 2.4.13 and Indigo 2.6.1 with Cinema R12.
Hardware and OS: Intel Core i7 CPU 975@3,33 GHz, 6GB RAM, NVidia GForce GTX 275 (driver 8.17.12.6658),
WIN 7 Professional 64-bit.
I would be very appreciative if someone could help mit with that!
Greetings
Daniel

Re: Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings
Hey ppHaus, welcome to the forums
The fragmentation looks like a scale-issue to me. How big is your model in meters? As a fast workaround, you can probably tell cindigo to use cm (or mm?), and not m. I no C4D user but it should easily be possible!
I like the "hausnummer" by the way, awesome!

Re: Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings
Thanks!
As soon as my computer isn´t used any more (by indigo network rendering) i will try this. Ich hope
this will be possible in the afternoon or tomorrow morning.
Scale-issue: interessting. But: the scale, the size and the location of my 3D-Modells (build in Allplan) is always nearly the same. Befor and after that problem turned up, i exported the 3D-Modells alway in the same way to cinema. So if it is a matter of the scale somehow, actually I allways had to have that problem, don´t you think?
But i had´t. Like I said, it first appeard not so long ago. Hmm......

Re: Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings
Hi ppHaus, and welcome.
I'm just posting to second PolinalKrimizei: this issue is known and identified as being related with off-scale scenes.
One other way to check for this is the scene bounding box dimensions as given by Indigo into the renderinng log, after all geometries have been processed and just before the render starts. Check if it is conform with your expectations !

Re: Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings
Hi,
off-scale scenes. Ok, i will check this. Later more.
Thanks!
Daniel
EDIT 17.02.2011: I´ll render the scene again now. For that i will erase my lightsource, wich I located a little far from the modell and wich is only needed for renderings from outside the modell. If it is an off-scale-problem, this should be the solution...............

Re: Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings
Hi,
Polinalkrimizei´s advice (not m but cm or mm) is def. pointing in the right direction.
THANKS! See the pic below; the fragmentation is gone now by using mm.
But as you can see, the picture is suffering from a blur in the near of the camera.
Mayebe somebody knows something about that. Thanks to Frank Schroer I
am trying cindigo-camera-tag-settings now.
Later more.

Re: Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings
Changing the whole scale situation also changes autofocus related settings to the camera, so you simply have DOF blur here!ppHaus wrote:But as you can see, the picture is suffering from a blur in the near of the camera.

Always (!!!) try to export your scenes in "real life scale" using the export modifier. It is based on the fact that C4D internal scale measure is in meters (even if you change it internally to cm etc.!!!).
use some reference objects to define scale modifier. A wall that is 3m in real life but 437m big in C4D ends up correctly if you set scale modifier to 0.0068 (3/437).
Correct scale is needed for correct usage of camera (DOF Blur) and also SSS, displacement & bump scale etc.

Re: Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings
Thanks to all of you!
For me the problem is solved. The fragmentation is gone and the blur is also.
See picture.
Solution:
Fragmentation: change settings fom m to mm
Blur: set Cindigo-camera-tag and change F-Stop to round about 32
Thanks again!
Daniel
Can i set this thread to: solved or something like that? How?

Re: Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings [SOLVE
Hey Daniel, cool that it works now!
But the change of the scale settings within cindigo is just a quick and really dirty workaround, as for indigo your model becomes a doll house. That affects the virtual camera on one hand, but also some materials (SSS for instance) and somehow the whole "look" of the scene. As indigo shoots "real" light rays onto "real" objects, the actual dimensions become very important, opposed to non-biased renderers.
Cheers!

Re: Unwanted tilings (fragmentation) in my renderings
Thank you so much.
I export my modells from Allplan (witch I use with m) to Cinema, witch works in default in m also.
Having that in mind, I did not change the units in cinema mainly because of the fact, that some
materials made problems in that case (tree-leafs). For this current rendering those materials didn´t matter,
so it was a god workaround at the time.
I will be busy the next days and weeks thinking about the scale-problem.
